S. M. "Sam" Jones of Deer Park, Texas went home to be with his heavenly Father on August 18, 2017. He was 89 years old. His last day was spent surrounded by his loving family and friends who were singing songs of praise and worship and offering prayers of thanksgiving for a life well lived.

Sam was born on February 14, 1928 in Olustee, Oklahoma to the late Alva Mood Jones and Eula Mae Jones. He was preceeded in death by his wife, Ruth Starks Jones; his sisters, Aliene Johnson, Phoebe Voorhis, Ada McCormick, and Wilma Alexander; his brother, Ben Jones; and his son-in-law, Ray Miller. Survivors include his children, Sharon (Ray) Miller, Charlotte (John) Valvaneda, Mike (Debby) Jones, Alan (Brenda) Stephens, and Ruth Ann (Wayne) Pruitt. Sam is also survived by his sister, Eula Jones Dunagan, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, many nieces, nephews and other family members who were all an integral part of his life. He was loved by everyone who had the privilege to know him.

Sam moved to Deer Park, Texas in 2006 from Corpus Christi, Texas to be close to family members living in the area. It did not take long for Sam and his family to get active at Life Community Church in La Porte, Texas. He quickly fell in love with Pastors Alan and Shelley Neel and the LCC staff. Thank you LCC for all the prayers and support over the past several years in Sam's fight with cancer and especially over the most recent months. His God, family and church were the cornerstones of his life.

The family of Sam Jones would also like to thank the management and staff at the Waterford at Deer Park where Sam resided for the last three years. You provided amazing support, love, and care that was evident from the day Sam arrived to the day of his heavenly graduation. What he found at the Waterford was a close-knit community of residents and staff who he grew to love greatly.

We would also like to send our heart-felt appreciation to Beverly Pruitt Crumrine for being his awesome care-giver over the last several weeks. Your love and care lifted Sam's spirits when he needed it most.

Services for Sam are pending till further notice.
